MEMBERSHIP AT POST 165
Start with a meeting.
Meet a few people, ask questions, and see how the Post fits into your life. You can visit before deciding to join.
What’s expected of me?
There’s no attendance or volunteer requirement. You can help at a Car Show or brat fry, make Buddy Check calls, or join a planning group when it fits your interests and time.
Meetings bring together the Post’s traditions, officer reports, and business for members to discuss and vote on. Our Sergeant-at-Arms welcomes and introduces newcomers.
How do I join Post 165?
Come to a meeting with your DD214 or other proof of eligibility. Paper applications are available there, and you can fill one out and pay your dues at the meeting.
Joining on the national website does not make you a member of Post 165. To join this Post, start with a meeting.
Am I eligible?
If you served at least one day of federal active duty from December 7, 1941, onward and were discharged honorably or under honorable conditions, you’re eligible. Current active-duty service also qualifies. You don’t need to have served in a combat zone.
National’s eligibility questions cover Guard and Reserve service and other circumstances. If you need a replacement DD214, request your records from the National Archives.
When can I visit?
Regular meetings are on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Manitowoc Rifle & Pistol Club. You don’t need to arrange an introduction before visiting.
First-visit information has the address and arrival details.
Prefer a public occasion first? See the public events calendar.
Already a Legion member?
To transfer, come to a meeting or contact the Post. Have your nine-digit member ID and be ready to show your DD214. Once you’re accepted, the Post files the transfer with Department and National. If you’ve already paid this year’s dues to another post, you won’t pay twice.
How do I renew?
Pay at a Post meeting or renew on the national website. You can also use MyLegion.org to print a membership card or update your address.
